Waste bin collection dates
Here you will find all the dates on which your bin is emptied. Every household in Bochum has a residual waste bin (grey), a paper bin (blue clip on the lid) and a plastic bin (yellow clip on the lid) or a yellow bag.

- Old clothes, car parts in general (car tyres, roof racks, car batteries, etc.), external blinds, bathtubs, construction timber, construction waste, trees, batteries, chemicals, roofing felt, roof tiles, shower cubicles, paint buckets, windows, window frames, bottles, tiles, foils, skirting boards, garden fences, (gas) barbecues, household waste, radiators, hygiene articles, fences, cardboard boxes, pebbles, varnish, laminate, paper, cardboard, night storage heaters, lawnmowers, renovation waste, sacks, harmful substances, wallpaper, toilet pots, door frames, washbasins, flat and front doors.
Electrical appliances must be provided separately next to the furniture.

Recycling centres
There are 6 recycling centres in Bochum. You can dispose of many different types of waste free of charge at these centres: wood, furniture, green waste, paper, batteries, light bulbs, paint and varnish, electrical waste such as televisions, hoovers, etc.
Residual waste, building rubble and mixed construction waste are chargeable waste. They can only be disposed of at the recycling centre in Kornharpen (Brelohstraße 70). Payment is made cashless at the recycling centre.

Depot containers – dispose of used glass, cardboard, old clothes

You can dispose of used glass, paper/cardboard and used clothing in the depot containers. Please separate white, brown and green glass. Do not dispose of broken, dirty clothing in the used clothing container – please dispose of these in the residual waste bin.

City cleaning and winter services

Every day, the street cleaning staff ensure that Bochum’s streets are clean and safe. They tackle dirt and precipitation with special vacuum sweepers, collection and street-washing vehicles.

Autumn is a particularly busy time for the USB. From the end of September, around 3,000 tonnes of fallen leaves are removed from Bochum’s streets in 10 weeks. In order to maintain road safety and cleanliness, employees are out and about in the city six days a week in autumn – with sweepers and refuse collection vehicles with suction devices, small sweepers, street sweepers, hand-held blowers, mobile suction devices with integrated shredders and four Trilos, which not only vacuum up leaves but also waste.
